MP-2是一款先進的儀器，具有多種感測器可供選擇，適用於各種材料應用。其感測器具有和其他儀器相似的工作原理，使用固定的電流（q）對感測器金屬絲進行加熱，透過測量金屬絲的電阻變化（THW和EFF）或電阻溫度探測器（TLS）來記錄升溫。斜率越低，樣品熱導率越高；斜率越高，樣品熱導率越低。
自動測試功能可以用內置軟體或MP-2 Windows應用軟體進行，相當便利。包括查看、保存、刪除結果、或將結果導入Excel。又因其便攜性，可以用電池或USB供電。儀器本身的屏幕提供豐富資訊，可讓用戶瞭解電源狀態和測試進度。
